Submissions Discussion - Ranksets - Starfleet Medal of Commendation

I was watching the Voyager episode "Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy", and I got thinking about the Starfleet Medal of Commendation that Captain Janeway pinned on the EMH. I have thought for a while, "Why don't they put that on the collar, since it's about the same size as a rank pip, either behind the rank insignia itself or on the opposite collar?"

So, I got bored today and created just that, using the red DS9 Ensign and Lieutenant (junior grade) pips in order to make use of the shadows, which I don't know how to make. By utilizing a Google search, I created 2 silver and 1 gold versions. Now, I'm not an artist by any stretch, but I'm not too shabby with software.

This is the more accurate of the graphics:

But I also decided to add these two as well:

After shrinking them down to about 17x17 in Gimp, I placed them behind a rank pip (really covered the hollow pip of a JG) in one placement idea:

My other idea was to place the Medal on the left, opposite collar from the rank insignia:

We can issue death threats?!

*coughs* Anyway...

I think the biggest concern I have with the design (And this is something I have a problem with when I do ranksets, too), is the loss of detail when you downsize an image. While you can easily see the delta on the pin while it's a big image, when it's small, well... That is an issue in itself.

It looks like you need a way to greater emphasize the details you would want.

I actually got that from an old podcast back before they were called podcasts. God, I'm old.

Like I stated above, I'm no artist. I'm a theoretician. I just come up with the ideas. I leave it up to the more skilled people around me to (hopefully) execute my brilliance.

Like I said, it was just an Idea I've never seen explored. If it can be worked out, brownie points.

I don't think the idea is unreasonable.

Also, you're not the only one around here who is ancient.

Though I might suggest actually looking for icons of a small size that has detail and simply copy paste onto the collar.

Just need to re-save the file type.
