 Bug on my Provider End
Posted by Kuro-chan - February 13th, 2014 - 23:21
Currently there seems to be a problem on my provider's end with Sessions. We are working on resolving it. I have noticed I cannot log out at the moment, so I know it affects logging in & out.

UPDATE on Feb. 16th: My provider says it's fixed.

 Another Set is Up.
Posted by Kuro-chan - February 10th, 2014 - 00:54
Hello again. This is Kuro-chan or Kuro-RPG here to announce a 'latest version' of the TNG Ranksets.

You can view it Here.

Special thanks to Jessica of #kepler (IRC) for helping to push and encourage me through getting this set done. People like you are pretty good at motivating me to get the job done.

In the meanwhile, I am not hearing about any demand for the Nova 3-style sets, so unless that changes, I will focus on the old-style ranksets, even though they are more work.

UPDATE 1: For a couple days, the site was acting a bit slower than normal. Apparently, the host server suffered a sort of 'Spambot Attack'. Might also explain the werid emails that keep popping up one of my email accounts...?

UPDATE 2: Looks like the domain was down for a couple hours during the wee hours. Well, obviously we are back up. I blame my provider.

UPDATE 3: Answering Eliana Tamerin's question(Posted February 17th): What has changed is:
  • Different Admiral Trim
  • Minor changes to the Alpha Channel
  • Uses the most recent pip set which was re-created at the start of the year for Meyer's Thin DS9 Ranks project.
  • Additional Cadet and Warrant Officer varities.

Sorry for any weird bugs, today.

I was working on the editor for the Links section. I also removed over 20 dead links.

I was surprised...

 W-w-wait... I put something up?!
Posted by Kuro-chan - January 27th, 2014 - 18:37
Yeah I did.

True Story!
Just have to click here!
It is new.
It even uses newer pips.

... I would be scared too, if I was in my shoes... Wait...

The idea behind the project was to some up with a DS9 variant that used a smaller image. While it is difficulty to condense the width without losing dept. colors or have the pips cut-off, it was very possible to cut off the height of the image, so they make better list images.

Thanks to #SimTrekChat IRC Chatroom and especially Meyer for the push and incentive to get this set done. It helps when I have some good, useful and practical direction.

On another note: I have disabled Ratings for the time being, until I can come up with a system that won't result in everyone's ratings tanking. I will entertain ideas on how to handle this.

 Scam of the Week
Posted by Kuro-chan - January 8th, 2014 - 18:49

I received an email in my box, claiming to be from "QuickBooks Invoice". It reads:
"Please find attached your invoices for the past months. Remit the payment by 01/07/2013 as outlines under our "Payment Terms" agreement.

Thank you for your business,

Lane Burke

The email address looks legit, but other sites have stated it's a fabrication. It includes a .pdf file, which can be coded to include trojans/viruses/etc.

DELETE IT if you see it. It's phishing/scam/bad for you.

Seems to be situation normal these days.

Anyhow, I received some complaints about the unusual and sudden low-ratings many submissions appear to be receiving as of late. For the time being, I am disabling casual browsers from being able to rate submissions. This will be restricted to registered members.

 Promoting a Site.
Posted by Kuro-chan - August 10th, 2013 - 16:06
Hi hi. Kuro here.

As part of an exchange deal, I have been asked to promote an exclusive Trek Social Media Site.

The Data Network:

  • "The Data Network is a Social Media platform just for Star Trek fans and players. Users can follow each other and send messages to the network. The network was designed so that Star Trek fans had a unique place to go to share their thoughts, stories and experiences in the Star Trek universe. We want to provide one place for Trekkers.

We also want to provide a place for gaming clans, fleets, and groups. We have various fleets with their own accounts, and players will be able to inform other users of which fleet they belong too."

 A Mountain of change!
Posted by Kuro-chan - July 21st, 2013 - 17:03
Kuro-chan here.

For anyone who is reading, you will have noticed the change in the appearance of the website.

Friday night (my time), the stuff on the server was being moved from one place to another, but somehow all my database stuff did not move over as well, so while stuff could be accessed, without that database, Kuro-RPG would not function. Since I had been working on this for a while now (encouraged by multiple donations that had come in), I got this version of the site done, cleaned up, debugged as best I could, then wiped the old system with all the old scripts, and put this version in it's place.

There are a number of changes I have made to the site:

  • Kuro-RPG has gone wide-screen! ... Or, at least wider-screen. Nearly all the pages should still work for 1024 x 768 displays though.
  • Javascript is required a lot more with this version, especially if you are logged in. If you are uncertain about the safety of the code and Javascript used on this site, you may refer to the Policy Section for more information.
  • A new Policy section has been included to cover the things Kuro-RPG stands for.
  • Awards, Fanmail and Token Positions have been removed, due to lack of use, however the databases, images, etc. are all still intact (Just in case).
  • Sugar Spice has plans to include some sort of award system. Stay tuned.
  • Administrators have a LOT more power on the site than before. They have greater access to nearly all that data available on the site.
  • Editing submissions, posts, etc. can be done on the page itself, rather than having to open up new sections. Also, it is possible now to delete/remove submissions.
  • The scripts behind all the material that is submitted to the site has been cleaned up a lot, almost eliminating redundancy.
  • A lot of the background images used on the site have been replaced with css scripting. If your browser is too old to support it, they will appear plain.

Also, thank you to Kevin W. for another donation to the site, encouraging me to get this overhaul finished!

  • Thanks to K'Tyra for noticing a bug on the Register page. Stupid me had it set to accept a username of 5 characters or less, instead of 5 characters or more.
  • According to my provider, I am on an earlier version of PHP, so there may be problems with submissions, profile editor, anything that involves submitting an image. If there are no images involved, there should be no problems. This should be fixed in the next 24 hours.
  • Thanks to Heyallo for finding a bug in my sample image viewers.
