Website Updates and News
I know I have been a quiet Kuro lately...

Seems to be situation normal these days.

Anyhow, I received some complaints about the unusual and sudden low-ratings many submissions appear to be receiving as of late. For the time being, I am disabling casual browsers from being able to rate submissions. This will be restricted to registered members.

 Promoting a Site.
Posted by Kuro-chan - August 10th, 2013 - 16:06
Hi hi. Kuro here.

As part of an exchange deal, I have been asked to promote an exclusive Trek Social Media Site.

The Data Network:

  • "The Data Network is a Social Media platform just for Star Trek fans and players. Users can follow each other and send messages to the network. The network was designed so that Star Trek fans had a unique place to go to share their thoughts, stories and experiences in the Star Trek universe. We want to provide one place for Trekkers.

We also want to provide a place for gaming clans, fleets, and groups. We have various fleets with their own accounts, and players will be able to inform other users of which fleet they belong too."

 A Mountain of change!

Kuro-chan here.

For anyone who is reading, you will have noticed the change in the appearance of the website.

Friday night (my time), the stuff on the server was being moved from one place to another, but somehow all my database stuff did not move over as well, so while stuff could be accessed, without that database, Kuro-RPG would not function. Since I had been working on this for a while now (encouraged by multiple donations that had come in), I got this version of the site done, cleaned up, debugged as best I could, then wiped the old system with all the old scripts, and put this version in it's place.

There are a number of changes I have made to the site:

  • Kuro-RPG has gone wide-screen! ... Or, at least wider-screen. Nearly all the pages should still work for 1024 x 768 displays though.
  • Javascript is required a lot more with this version, especially if you are logged in. If you are uncertain about the safety of the code and Javascript used on this site, you may refer to the Policy Section for more information.
  • A new Policy section has been included to cover the things Kuro-RPG stands for.
  • Awards, Fanmail and Token Positions have been removed, due to lack of use, however the databases, images, etc. are all still intact (Just in case).
  • Sugar Spice has plans to include some sort of award system. Stay tuned.
  • Administrators have a LOT more power on the site than before. They have greater access to nearly all that data available on the site.
  • Editing submissions, posts, etc. can be done on the page itself, rather than having to open up new sections. Also, it is possible now to delete/remove submissions.
  • The scripts behind all the material that is submitted to the site has been cleaned up a lot, almost eliminating redundancy.
  • A lot of the background images used on the site have been replaced with css scripting. If your browser is too old to support it, they will appear plain.

Also, thank you to Kevin W. for another donation to the site, encouraging me to get this overhaul finished!

Updates:
  • Thanks to K'Tyra for noticing a bug on the Register page. Stupid me had it set to accept a username of 5 characters or less, instead of 5 characters or more.
  • According to my provider, I am on an earlier version of PHP, so there may be problems with submissions, profile editor, anything that involves submitting an image. If there are no images involved, there should be no problems. This should be fixed in the next 24 hours.
  • Thanks to Heyallo for finding a bug in my sample image viewers.

I was never actually sure which day this 'officially' happened, but it is around this time...

Happy 8th Anniversary to Kuro-RPG. This site has certainly been around a long time and has gone through many changes.

I recommend checking this site for information on how to fix the problem.

Cheers.

 Something I need to discuss.
Posted by Kuro-chan - June 20th, 2013
Hello.

First things first, a thank you to Kevin W. for his donation to the site. I certain appreciate it. He has done a lot for site, including being a test bed for many rankset projects I have worked on.

I have been quiet the last few months. There has been a reason.

I have been having a number of different health and physical problems. My back situation became more severe and I had to undergo physiotherapy. I was taken off being able to work and that has been rather depressing lately.

And then I got the news about my leg a couple weeks ago. I have a long blood clot running through my right leg in and around the knee. While it is not the end of world, the problem is if it breaks. If it does, no one can get me an ambulance fast enough. So it has potential to be life-threatening.

So I won't lie. I have been uninclined to work on anything lately. I have taken in a few projects and stuff in the meantime, anything that has been paying, since I have since zero compensation in my disability status/situation, despite what I was told would happen.

Kevin's donation has been the first piece of good news I have received in a while related to this website, so his influence should help me to get some more stuff put up soon.

We're still alive here, in fact, I'm poking the awesomeness that is Kuro-Chan to do a Kuro Texture pack for our minecraft players (and everyone else of course!)

Hit up the comments, let us know what you think or what you'd like to see done =D
