Minimum Run

Main Article: Space Quest II Minimum Score Run

Notes

Main Debug Commands

Type DBG or BACKSTAGE to enable some debugging functions. These features are disabled upon entering a new room.

Here's the complete word list:

TP: Teleport to the appropriate room. POS: Set Roger's X and Y positions. GET OBJECT: Puts the appropriate object by ID in the player's inventory. OBJECT or SP: Gives status on the appropriate object. SET VAR: Sets a chosen variable to a given value. SHOW VAR: Displays the value of a variable. SET FLAG: Sets the appropriate flag. RESET FLAG: Resets the appropriate flag. SHOW FLAG: Displays info on a flag (Can be either set or not set).

Numbers you won't care about.

SHOW MEM: Displays info on memory use.

These colors do mean something.

SHOW PRI: Displays priority settings on the current room.

Other

These commands are independent from the ones above. They can be entered at any time.

More numbers? For me?! You shouldn't have.

Type TESTER to display Roger's X and Y coordinates on the bottom of the screen. Type CLOCK to display the current game time in the upper-right corner of the screen. The old debug command Alt+D (or Cmd+D in the Mac version) will display the AGI Interpreter version number, but will not enable the above debug commands.

Bugs and Glitches

i
Speedy, the wonder dialogue!

Instant Whisking

Credit: Kuro-chan

This line of text goes by the screen so fast it becomes nearly impossible to read it under normal circumstances.

The developers did not include a pause in the text. Slower cycle CPUs would have had more time to display this before the next screen loaded, such as a 286 or slower computer.

i
I wear as I please!

My Suit, My Rules!

Credit: Phil B
Additional Research: Gage Holston

In versions prior to 2.0C, it's possible to switch back into the EVA suit after receiving your orders from your boss in the tube room. The EVA suit view will carry over until the player rides the tube.

  • Since the player loses the order form when wearing the EVA suit, progressing onwards with this state will softlock the game.
  • This oversight was fixed in 2.0C. Trying to change back after receiving orders will result in the message "There is no need to change suits now. Get on with the game." Version 2.0D changed this to "That's not needed for cleaning the shuttle!"

i
Even Roger cannot scrub this one.

Stations Always Need Extra Detail

Credit: Kuro-chan

A patch of background was pasted over top the drawn layers to cover up a priority line used to wall off the ride of the room. However, an extra black pixel was included that Roger will end up behind when walks around the bottom-left corner.

i
Gonna feel that one in the morning.

Quite the Headache

Credit: Kuro-chan

Due to an issue with the priority layer, Roger's head makes his body looks like he is still in front of the riser, even though he **should be** behind it.

i
A certain power suit crazed soldier would love this tunnel!

Tubular

Category: Out of Bounds
Credit: Kuro-chan

There is the narrowest of a pathway gap between the pathblocking and the tube entrance, but it is enough to wrap Roger between the two and walk out of bounds around the map.

To reach it, the player must move back towards the transport inside the tube, but not enough to trigger the return trip to the control room (It might be easier going diagonal, rather than straight up). From there, the player can go left or right and move around the transport so they can explore the map in the non-traditional sense.

i
Just think of it as a berry on the bush.

Our Bushes Have Extra Green

Credit: Kuro-chan

A patch of bush was pasted overtop all the drawn layers to cover up a priority line used for the cliff edge. However, the box it clips and draws includes part of the distant forest background, so if Roger walks in front of the bush, some extra green can be seen.

i
It's ok, Roger. We see you enough as it is...

Need Some Clippers

Credit: Gage Holston

A small, vertical strip of Roger can show up along the bottom of the bush due to how a priority line is drawn over the bush priority to ensnare the player. This creates the downside of being able to see part of Roger overlap the bush.

i
I guess the yell was just that powerful...

Universal Lockup

Credit: Gage Holston

Knock out the guard at the landing platform using the sling. Normally, yell guard does not work at this point since he is disposed of. If the player however leaves south and returns, the flag that controls this action is reset. The result is trying the command now will result in Roger's movement locking up, since the guard's current state does not allow the action to finish properly.

This occurs in all versions of the game.

No Cutter? No Problem!

Credit: Phil B

Versions prior to 2.0D did not check if the player had actually acquired the glass cutter when attempting to use it in the glass jar.

i
Foreshadowing a miniature Roger?

The Shuttle is a One-Way Trip Back?

Credit: Kuro-chan

In Version 2.0A, exiting the shuttle after entering it does not properly update Roger's sprite. It leaves him a tiny dot on the screen.

Odd Coding

i
It was so OP it hit Roger several feet away.

A Missed POW

Credit: Kuro-chan

The POW effect is concentrated at the front of the cage, which appears to impact Roger regardless of where he is.

OK. I have mucho paperwork to finish.

There is content that has been found since the page was last updated and needs to be included.
